Book Review: Decent, fun, but not great

I read all of the Gotrek & Felix novels written by William King about five years ago, when I was neck-deep in all sorts of Warhammer goodies and books. Back then I loved the whole series, and probably would have given each book 5 stars.
I started to reread them recently, with a more refined taste in novels. King's books are fun. They truly exemplify the Warhammer world and all its dark humor and morose themes, while following a pair interesting characters, but he doesn't write extremely well. He constantly tells us what HAPPENED to Felix and Gotrek, even if the event in question only took place a few minutes ago. This detracts from the sense that the reader is right there with the characters, something that many other fantasy authors do very well.
Still, if you're looking for an engaging and deep narrative, the G&F novels aren't for you. If you're looking for fun, bloody stories, this is where you want to look.
