Book Review: So so... Summary: 3 Stars
This book was very good at making you turn pages quickly...
but it lacked a powerful punch at the end. :(
Book Review: Surprise Favorite Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, it is such a relief to read a really good suspense novel, one which doesn't rely on sex or language to keep the reader intrigued. This author has co-authored with Frank Peretti (author of This Present Darkness, Piercing The Darkness, etc.), who is himself a master at suspense, so you KNOW he's gotta be talented!
I picked this book up on a whim in a bargain basket, never having heard of the title or author before. To my great delight, this has turned out to be one of my favorite books! Dekker has a way of sucking you into the story, making you want to keep reading even after it's ended. The characters are easy to love, hate, and relate to. They represent real peple with real flaws and realistic reactions to the circumstances they were thrust into. There are so many twists and turns and downright weird happenings in this book that the reader is kept guessing all the way to the last page. Try as you might, it is near impossible to guess at anything between the lines until the author decides to let you in on it. Dekker is imaginative and extremely original, a nice break from all of the predictable suspense novels out there. Readers beware: you won't be able to put this book down!
Book Review: The Circle is Getting Bigger, and Bigger, and... Summary: 2 Stars
Ted Dekker, a Christian author who has made quite a splash (more like a cannonball)in the Christian fiction market over the past few years, has made another splash with a recent novel, Skin. Readers are introduced to the main characters and their complex personalities right off the bat. You've got Wendy, the survivor of a polygamous cult in Nevada, Colt, a brawny but somewhat less than attractive cop who's been trying to crack the case on a nut who tortured him in the past and is now on the loose, killing at whim. Wendy ends up tossed in the mix with
him and two others, trapped in the killer's sick game. Is this sounding familiar to anyone yet?
The thriller starts off pretty spooky. It's definetely not one of those books most people feel comfortable with reading in the dark, under their covers. Read this one during the daylight, I suggest.
But, without giving anything away, the book will make your head spin with a surprise ending. A suprise ending that many (myself included) will not be satisfied with. Not to mention the book seems to be connected with Dekker's Circle trilogy. Yeah, just like all his other books. Some may enjoy having another insight into the mystery surrounding the Circle. But others may just be annoyed. I leave the choice to you.
I just have to say, you should read Dekker's Circle trilogy. Black, Red, and White. Though I personally tire of the complex, unending "mystery" of the circle that finds its way into every Dekker book, The Circle trilogy is truly a force to be reckoned with. Quality is the final word.
Book Review: Thriller Summary: 5 Stars
Skin holds Ted Dekker up as one of the premier Thrill writters of this Centruy. You might be able to guess the "who done it" but not the plot! Be prepared for twist and turns you could never even imagine... and an end that leaves you breathless!
