Book Reviews of SkinBook Review: Two world drama Summary: 5 Stars
Where do you begin? What is the real world? This book leaves you questioning the what and hows all the way through. I'm not sure if it was a character or just plain curiosity that kept me reading. How could the landscape change so dramatically so fast?
By the time you figure what is really going on your stuck in the lives of six characters and don't want out. The intrigue increases the more you learn. I loved following the characters through the spins and twists and there are many of them.
This was more than a learning experience for me. It was a thrill to see how the written word can move reality even if you know it is not real.
Christian Fiction Author "Trainer" Trilogy
Book Review: Very very dejavu Summary: 4 Stars
Thought the book had a nice story line and plot. Got a little bit on the dry side when things kept repeating, but they had to for the story to go on.
Was still in awe at the end even when you figured everything out.
Great mystery book! And the thing I love most about Ted Dekker books is that it's suspenseful but yet keeps all of the foul language out. Proof that books and movies don't need to use such words.
That and his books always have an alternate meaning.
Book Review: Weird Twists Summary: 3 Stars
Although this book is very well written and definately keeps you on your toes with each turn of the page... I still can't help being a little confused and thus, let down by the books ending. I won't spoil it here but I will say that perhaps it's just my high expectations that let me down... Not sure if I would have bought it if I knew the ending would be so WEIRD.
Book Review: Welcome to PLANET AWFUL Summary: 1 Stars
Hi there. The people who gave the 1-star, 2-star, and maybe 3-star ratings were on the money. This book is the worst of the Dekker books. It has terrible dialogue, lack-luster characters, and a tired - blah blah blah - feel to it. Worst of all, unlike the spectacular Circle Trilogy, this book has ZERO Christianity infused in it. Christianity is a key reason people buy these books. I don't know what the author was thinking when he wrote it.
Sad to say -- but this book was a waste of time.
Great books: Any book by C.S. Lewis. However, for the novice, start off with the Narnia books. Also Judgement Day by (Kenneth?)David. Circle Trilogy by Dekker. This Present Darkness by Perreti.
Terrible Books: This one. Thr3e by Dekker.
Book Review: Well written . . . or is it? Summary: 3 Stars
OKAY, so this was my first Ted Dekker book, so will I read him again?
Yes.
He has a good writing style that is fun to read, but it does have its flaws--or at least in this book it does. This book felt rushed, I had to re-read a lot of paragraphs to try and figure out what he was trying to say! As someone else said before, this book felt like a fist draft. He should of probably re-written it. So a little sloppy in the writing but the style is great!
Skin is a hard book for me to like completely, even without the unprofessional and annoying dialog that sometimes got in the way (for example, they told Jerry Pinkus to "shut up!" what felt like a hundred times. If that was supposed to be humor it felt more stupid to me. You don't keep repeating the same words over and over every time the same guy tries to speak.) because the story itself was too much for me, you won't know what I mean until you get through the book. But come on, its all a little fake if you ask me. Nice try though. I just wasn't expecting this book to go that way.
And if you want a moral review I'll just go ahead and say that this could of easily been a non-Christian book, I really don't get it to, because it was advertised, sold and published by all Christian companies. And there wasn't even a single Christian in the entire book! I was waiting for some kind of a spiritual rebirth for the characters, but nope they stayed the same throughout the entire book. No conversion or conviction. But this isn't really my place to say it was wrong for the writer to do that, he probably had his reasons. But Im just say'n if your look'n for a relaxing, non-aggressive, calm, and casual Christian book that you can read to your kids at bedtime. This isn't it.
The content of the book I would say is adult, especially the violence, it might bother you. (among other things, a few people get disfigured by the killer)
Overall I give it three stars because I think this guy is a good writer I like his style but this book didn't go the way I wanted it to and he had some sloppy mistakes in his writing.
"We say things like 'thank God!' or 'praise God!' in public without resentment from people, but why don't we say 'thank Jesus!', or 'praise Jesus!' instead. We use God's name all the time but we don't seem to be very bold with Jesus' name.
Too personal? 'cause after all it's not God that gets us into Heaven, it's Jesus. Satan dosn't mind as much because he knows this. But if we started thanking Jesus in public, a bet you that resentment and hate would start to bubble."
