Book Reviews of Skinny BitchBook Review: ...... Summary: 4 Stars
I thought this book was good. But I wish I had known it was a vegan book. I expected it to be more of a real life guide to eating well.
Book Review: 1 only because 0 is not available! Summary: 1 Stars
Very disappointed to have bought this book. Authors seem very angry, and well - mean! Many people are in serious trouble for calling themselves "fat pigs", a phrase used often in this book. There is an abusive tone to the authors - do not buy this book!!
Book Review: 2 Thumbs Way Down... Summary: 1 Stars
I was excited for this book because I thought it would simply state what I know to be true. That whole grains, fresh produce and low-fat meat and dairy are good for you and you need to get movin' to loose weight. I was expecting a fun spin on these ideas and maybe some new tips. Instead, the authors sadly used this book as a way to unfairly and inaccurately make the entire meat and dairy industry look terrible. Not everyone needs to be a vegan! They also included tons of made up facts on human digestion that simply aren't true. I will continue with my 3 serving of dairy, low-fat meat and veggies/fruit and whole grains. While I agree with a few things in this book, much of it is ludicrous and really shouldn't be in print.
Book Review: 30 day trial... Summary: 5 Stars
As a 40 year old woman who has been fighting digestive problems, head aches, and other issues for many years...I was tired of it. After Doctor after Doctor pushing pills on me, with no help, I asked if my diet could have any bearing on everything. Even though I am somewhat overweight, I was told no. So, with that being said, I read Skinny Bitch and gave it a try. I'm not 100% there yet but have stopped eating all meat and 99% of dairy (haven't rid myself of sugar yet). WOW!! I haven't felt this good since I was a kid. My daily headaches are gone, my digestion is normal, my skin and hair are great, and I don't need a lunch time nap anymore. I am off all medications, including over the counter pain relievers. They are right when they say it's a lifestyle change, but for me it's been totally worth it.
Book Review: A Big Waste of Money and Time Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this book while out (ironically) grocery shopping. I wish I'd saved my money!
This book claims to offer insight on how to eat healthier and, yes, "get skinny". What it doesn't tell you on the cover is that its vegetarian/vegan propaganda and that, according to the authors, you can only be skinny if you become one as well. Chapter one states that getting skinny doesn't involve changing everything you do but from chapter two on that's exactly what the authors are telling you; unless you change the way you look at, purchase, eat, prepare food to become a vegan, you cannot and will not be skinny and that in order to be skinny you have to 100% change everything about your eating habits.
I didn't not think this book would be offensive based on the title. I took the use of the "B" word as humorous but as I read the book I realized I was wrong. Nothing about this book was humorous. It was offensive on many, many levels. First, the idea that if we don't think and act exactly as the authors do that we are wrong. Second, the profanity used in an effort to be humorous and "cool" is just juvenile. Real ladies don't need to act like teenagers to get their ideas across. Third, the "bait and switch" promise of teaching healthier eating habits, then going on to describe in horrific detail the ways animals are killed and, in opinion, the many diseases you will catch if you eat any animal products. I can go on and on and on but you get the idea.
I am not if favor of cruelty to animals but if I wanted to read a book about the meat packing industry I would have purchased one. I may have chosen to try some of the authors' vegan suggestions had they been presented in a "they are healthy alternatives" way rather than a "you meat eating idiot! This is the right and only way to eat." way.
If I could have given this book a zero star rating I would have. Don't waste your money.
