Book Review: A Case for Going Vegan
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall, I thought this was a good book. There is nothing earth-shattering or truly unique about it (in my opinion). Basically, it's full of tips, facts and information on why being vegetarian, or vegan, is good for you. For me, it made a sound case and has me second-thinking the whole carnivore lifestyle so in that respect, it's a smart and intelligent book.

What makes "Skinny Bitch" stand out is it's approach and prose. It's all about ditching bad habits and bad foods that cause ailments, diseases and obesity and suggests healthier alternatives to becoming a sexy "skinny bitch" that's healthier, positive and more attractive. It's motivating along with being very bitchy, cursing at you and pretty much putting down those who don't subscirbe to this logic. At certain points it made me laugh by simply being so abrasive and 'bitchy'. It also helps in making you feel as if this is conversational, written by people you can relate to instead of doctors and specialist coming at you with something totally new and groundbreaking that'll change your life.

In all, it's a good book. I like that it offers many resources, lists, articles, suggested foods, menus to help you make some better decisions about food and what you're consuming. Check out this book and become a 'skinny bitch' yourself.

Book Review: A Fun, Fresh Approach to Veganism!
Summary: 5 Stars

Rory and Kim have done a fantastic job of opening the world of veganism to everyone. Their bluntness is refreshing. I truly respect their honesty and the fact that it hasn't been watered down as to not offend anyone. Sometimes, being a little offensive is the best way to get a point across.

The list of vegan ingredients for cooking near the back is great! There are tasty options that even the most discerning, omnivorous palate will appreciate. Whether you are an existing vegan looking for a fun and enlightening way to cook or an omnivore who wants to get healthy and reduce your carbon footprint, this book is a must read! And don't forget to ditch that "Liquid Satan" (which is the best term for soda I've ever heard in my life)!

Book Review: A Little Thin in Places
Summary: 4 Stars

I enjoyed this book for its brisk, no-nonsense, funny and foul-mouthed presentation. What it seems to boil down to in the end is an extremely low-calorie, low-fat diet that may be too difficult to maintain. Some of the many vegan theory-and-recipe books on the market are a little more user-friendly and seem more likely to stick (you get to eat more). Also, they have cobbled together an approach that marries the Diamonds' Fit for Life approach with a variety of other ideas. Dean Ornish, Neal Barnard, McDougall, The Hawaii Diet and others seem to advocate a slightly heartier approach. Most of us overweight types might have real problems transitioning suddenly to fruit, salad, and not much else diets.

Book Review: A Lot of Bitching, but not enough Skinny Menus
Summary: 2 Stars

I like nutrition & dieting--so I started to read this book (gift from hubby). There were a lot of ideas on healthier eating, but no actual portions in the menus. One breakfast menu item read, "fruit salad"--but, no quantities or specific fruits listed. The majority of the book is spent quoting "Slaughterhouse", and PETA (some VERY graphic animal cruelty is quoted), in an effort to educate the reader as to why they should be a vegan and use vegan products. There is also quite a lot of profanity used(but the title is a tip-off for that). The book was authored by two former models (who never battled morbid obesity in their lives) so some of the advice isn't practical for those who truly struggle with their weight, and need precise measured food instructions, and specific exercise instructions.

I agree that we should all limit our use of animal products, but this book hides under the guise of being a DIET book. If it had VEGAN in the title--how many books would they actually sell? After reading this book, I do intend to limit my animal product usage, but I was disappointed that the nutrition advice was so lacking in specifics.

Book Review: A MUST READ!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

So empowering! This book is packed full of useful and SCARY information that the general public seems oblivious to. A MUST READ! I always considered myself a healthy eater, but this book will help reveal what is REALLY in the food that we eat. I've even caught my boyfriend reading a few of the sections! If you can't handle matter-of-fact, in-your-face facts and/or can't accept that you have vices (like the rest of us) then this book is NOT for you!
