Book Reviews of Skinny Bitch

Book Review: A Mixed Review
Summary: 2 Stars

So I read this book a year ago and incorporated some of the advice into my daily eating habits and easily lost 20 pounds. I am not in a position to be fully vegan, nor do I want to (I LOVE cheese). I do understand that eating healthy/fresh ANYTHING is better than processed crap, I didn't need the book to tell me that. What I needed the book for was a witty daily reminder of why I was making the effort to eat healthier in the first place. (Aside from, I want to be a skinny B!) Another review on here said it best, take what you want out of it and leave the rest there. I continue to follow the following:

-Eat fruit first thing in the morning. To me I didn't find it necessary to eat only fruit until lunch, but I stick to the rule of starting the day with fruit and eating nothing else for 30 minutes. It has really helped w/ digestion.
-Don't eat processed white sugar or white carbs. (DUH!!)
-Sugar in raw form is okay, and many organic snacks are made with this.

I don't like how they say exercise can be bad for you, when I don't exercise I am NOT happy! I think the way they put it is too general, it varies depending on the individual.

Overall, the book is okay depending on what you hope to get out of it. I was looking for motivation to carry out my already determined weight loss goals, and it worked. I was not looking for anyone to tell me what to do, I had figured that part out on my own. I recently re-read it as a post January reminder...

Book Review: A Must Read for Anyone
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't have a desire to read this book initially because I am already a vegan and figured I was already fairly informed on the cruelty that animals are subjected to and what a healthy diet is. Then I started getting all these emails and phone calls from my meat eating friends saying that Skinny Bitch had changed their lives and that they were all going veg. I knew I had to read the book becuase there was something in it that had reached my friends that I was unable to do.I believe that people need to stop with the whole "ignorance is bliss" motto because that is a very cowardly position to take. This book opens you eyes to the realities of what goes into making your food. I thought it was a really fun, engaging read. The chapter on animal cruelty is hard to swallow and I did sit on my bed and bawl but these are things people need to be aware of. Even if you don't walk away from this book a vegan, you will hopefully at least make wiser choices when opening your pocket book.

Book Review: A Nasty Trick
Summary: 1 Stars

A book that features two lovely authors on the back cover and boasts a clever title is bound to be a best seller. However, this is not a diet book, but rather a 'thinly' (pun-intended) disguised soapbox for veganism. What diet advice there is, is the 'same old, same old,' only peppered with profanities to make it seem up-to-the minute and fresh. And as sad as the reports about animal abuse make me, we've heard these before, too. But if I'd wanted an advocacy book disguised as something else, I'd read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair all over again.

Book Review: A PETA meeting in disguise?
Summary: 1 Stars

I first saw this book in stores. I wish I had read any sort of review online first. It really appealed to my fabulous side, along with my desire to be skinny. Unfortunately it really had nothing to do with dieting. It was more about two failed models trying to use "hip" filthy language to push their beliefs on the public. I'm pretty sure the back cover didn't mention that the book would leave me sobbing in bed about how people slaughter pigs. That was not what I signed up for. If I was interested in joining PETA I would send Ingrid a check. However shallowly, I was only interested in getting skinny. This book didn't help. It only made me cry.

Book Review: A REAL EYE-OPENER - AND A FUN READ
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't imagine reading this book and still being able to eat animals. The title is a bit deceiving since the book is as much about getting healthy and saving the environment as it is getting "skinny", but I certainly lost pounds after reading the book. We seem to be a country of greedy gluttons, and this book sheds light on a more positive road we can take to start turning things around. READ THIS BOOK.
