Book Review: A Swift Quick in the Pants, A Book That May Save the Human Race
Summary: 4 Stars

If you believe all the hype about the dangers of certain foods, and chances are the hype is right, you will find this book extremely informative. Skinny Bitch is a seemingly well-researched essay on the dangers of the all the foods we were brought up and that our people have been eating for centuries.

Freedman and Barnouin methodically and categorically investigate each food, what that food does to our bodies, why it can be bad for us and ultimately, pack on the pounds. Every food seems to be accounted for. With the sleuthing skill of the CSI investigative team, the dangers of sugar, sugar substitutes, dairy, meat, chicken and fish are exposed. In the authors evaluation these foods are poisons and to be avoided.

Thankfully, the authors are quick to point out the solutions and healthy substitutes for the reader. The authors are also sensitive to the fact that such a drastic change in diet can be difficult and offer some transition tips.

Although some of the language is jarring and I suspect not often needed in the book, I could be wrong, since this is a topic that is so important to the authors and their audience, the language is used as a tool to get attention. Even though I am no expert on dietary science, I suspect that much of what the authors present in the book is true and that a drastic change in diets for all Americans is on the horizon. (I am seriously considering Rice Dream.) If so, Freedman and Barnouin are owed a debt of gratitude.

Book Review: A Waste of Time and Money
Summary: 1 Stars

This is a particularly distasteful book, full of dubious science and nutrition claims. Nothing against a vegan diet, but the authors do not tell you until well into the book that this is what they are promoting. This one definitely goes into the discard pile!

Book Review: A big fat lie
Summary: 1 Stars

This book is NOT a diet book it's a manifesto for the wacko PETA group. It's a scare tactic filled with lies to make you afraid to eat meat and convince you to be a vegan. I'm livid that they took their wacky animal rights agenda and made it out to be a diet book so they could coerce people into buying it.

A TOTAL WASTE of money.

Book Review: A bit vulgar, but good info.
Summary: 4 Stars

I just finished this book. I've been vegetarian since jr. high and am now bordering on veganism so the ideas presented here are very much in line with my beliefs and simply strengthened those beliefs. I could have done without the vulgarity, but the messages are good and backed up with facts. A low-fat, vegan diet is the simplest way to improve health and lose weight. Follow the guidelines and you WILL lose weight. You'll also learn to enjoy real food again. =)

Book Review: A book that caters and creates eating disorders!!!!!!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

To whom it may concern,

I recently had a very disturbing interview with a patient of mine with a SEVERE eating disorder. This patient used this book as her "bible" before developing an eating disorder and learned things like " skinny people make happy people" and to basically only eat vegetables and fruits therefore restricting her diet which is an essential component of an eating disorder. She idealized the authors(both ex models who likely have eating disorders themselves) and followed their book and ended up very sick and requiring a hospital admission to psychiatry. This book states near the end "...don't develop an eating disorder on us" Oops I think you may be creating them

My advice as a physician is do not buy this book and dipose of it if you own it!!!!

I plan to pursue this further and do some research on the subject to protect future patients.
