Book Reviews of Slam! (Point Signature (Scholastic))Book Review: A GREAT BOOK !!! Especially if you love basketball. Summary: 4 StarsSLAM by Walter Dean Myers The story I read takes place at Latimer high school in Harlem. Seventeen-year-old Greg "Slam" Harris can do it all on the basketball court. When he's on the court he's on FIRE !!! But off the court Greg's grades aren't so hot. He knows it, but he doesn't want to hear it. When his teachers try to help him understand his problems he blows up. Slam is a junior in a visual arts program at Latimer, a New York City high school. He is struggling everywhere, including the basketball court, where he thinks he knows everything. Slam has to be wary of temptations on the corners of Harlem. He tries to keep a steady relationship with his family and his girl. He never doubted himself on the court until he found himself going one-on-one with his own future, and he didn't have the ball.` I think that the author ( Walter Dean Myers ) of Slam did a great job portraying the everyday life of a troubled teenager in Harlem. If I could rate this book on a scale of one to five, I would give it a four, because I like basketball and the author did a great job describing what was happening when Slam was playing basketball. This book kept me interested the whole time and kept me wondering what was going to happen to "SLAM" next.
