Book Reviews of Slash

Book Review: Enlightening to say the least
Summary: 5 Stars

Growing up in the 80's and still being a big fan of 80's hair metal this was a must read. There was some funny stuff but also the debauchery was more than I really expected. How he is even alive today is completely a mystery. This was a great book though. It started a smidge slow getting into his childhood but after that it picks up.

Book Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

Slash is an exceptionally well written auto biography. He is very well-spoken and straightforward about his life and the events that have led him to where he is today. I read this book in two days. Rock on!

Book Review: Excellent read!
Summary: 5 Stars

Although Slash is known the world over for over-inbibing in drugs and alcohol, this book was not just another rendition of that portion of his life, and was in fact a great mixture of his early years, Guns formation, how many of their songs came about, the eventual break-up of Guns and finally his life up to the very present in Velvet Revolver. There was quite a bit I didn't know, and I follow him!

What I liked most of this book was that it didn't over indulge in the drugs to the detriment of the music. Like another reviewer, I had read (or tried to read) Anthony Kiedis' book "Scar Tissue" but it kept going on and on about the drugs and hardly anything about the creation of Chilli Pepper's music. I finally put it down half way through thinking "No mas!" Not Slash's book - I sure gained a new perspective on many of their songs and how they began, and have listened to "Appetite" with a completely new insight.

The other thing I really liked and respect of Slash and this book is that he never slung the mud towards one A. Rose, which, given past press and common knowledge he could easily have done. He has taken the high road once again and although some bitterness comes out if you read between the lines, he never really attacks the very reason GNR broke up.

Overall, this was a great read, good pacing, very interesting and a fascinating look at one of most successful and passionate guitarists in rock history.

Book Review: Fastest Book I Ever Read
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't want to get down to any details and stuff, but i just want to say that I loved this book, and that it was great. It is literally the fastest book i have ever read, i just could not put it down, hours after hours, it was that entertaining for me. So I highly recommend it to all that are interested in guns n' roses and slash fans especially.

Book Review: Feels like a rush job....
Summary: 3 Stars

Obviously you are reading this book as a GNR or Slash fan and not a fan of Bozza.

The Good: Slash is such an interesting man, a functioning junkie and a guy who deserved way better treatment as one of the original line up. In this book you'll learn how GNR got together and how all the members bent over backwards to keep Axl Rose happy only to be rewarded with no-shows, legal wrangles and exorbitant spending of their money just to satiate his ego. You'll also see that Slash is a very humble guy and although it would appear that Axl contrived the demise of GNR Slash is ultimately full of praise for Axl's talents, just not his antics.
You'll learn how Slash came up a a kid and how his drive and talent got him to where he is today, all this makes for unputdownable reading.

The Bad: typo's, repetition ("...but we'll come to that in just a little bit..." must appear in every chapter.) There is one chapter that I am sure starts out with the same paragraph as another! Bozza is by no means Shakespeare and doesn't try to be but simple attention to spelling is something that you just have to have in a book that costs this much. Bozza - fire your proof-reader and send your next book to me!

The Lowdown: The subject matter keeps this book afloat, it's fascinating and hilarious. I feel that this book was rushed for the Christmas market and was deliberately timed to follow the Heroin Diaries. If you don't have this book wait for the paperback or buy it used.
