Book Review: A Book That is Supposed to Be Romantic but Falls Short
Summary: 3 Stars
This book is very formulaic, much like The Bridges of Madison County but not nearly as good. It has 'cutesy' detail such as Kincaid having a photo in an indian lodge of his lover reincarnated as a lion.
The story is about a 43 year-old man who falls in love with a 40 year-old woman. He's hip, a divergent thinker and knows a great thing when he finds it. She is in a marriage of convenience and has a secret in her past that has caused her great pain. She travels to India to try to come to terms with her past. He drops everything and goes after her. (Natuarally, they're all academics).
The book is very silly, not even very romantic. Waller reminds us that this is supposed to be romantic throughout the book. If it was really romantic, this would speak for itself.
