Book Reviews of SmackBook Review: A Literary Smack in the Face Summary: 4 Stars
I was in line at Barnes and Noble when I first discovered 'Smack.' It was on sale and, intrigued by the title, I bought it. I was reading other books at that time but I soon was so hooked on 'Smack' that I decided to take a break on the other ones and devote my full attention to 'Smack.' I enjoyed it because it was a story, not a sermon. It was also a fast, easy read that didn't talk down to its readers even though the majority of its readers are probably 13. Anyway, this book was fascinating and horrifying. It gives a inside view of a life of addiction.
Book Review: A Smack in the Face Summary: 5 Stars
I absoutley loved this book. I read the whole book at the bookstore! I overcame my heroin addiction on Jan 1, 1999. I lost my best friend to a heroin Overdose at a New Years party. You never think that something like Smack can happen to you. The quote on the cover is so true, because when you give it up for a few days, then take it, it works the best. That is the really Nasty thing. I recomend this book to everyone.
Book Review: A Startling Awakening Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great, great book. I was hooked on it the very first page I read. The story is about two runaway teens living on the streets. At first they are fine, and gradually, then with increasing speed, they begin their downfall into the horifying realities of heroin. This story really shows how brutal drug addiction can be, and how horrifying the realities of it can lead to. I recommend this book to everyone. It will teach you a great lesson and insure that you stay away from drugs.
Book Review: A beautifully written book. Summary: 5 Stars
Melvin Burgess did in incredibly wonderful job of showing what life is like on the streets and being addicted to drugs. His words were powerful and the way he showed us the lives of the characters in the book is so original. This is a book that everyone should read (both old and young) because it gets us to think about how our life is and how we should be grateful for what we have. If you are a drug user or have experimented with drugs, you can relate to the lives of these people so much. An excellent book, excellent story, excellent author.
Book Review: A disapointed 1 Stars
This book takes place in England. Gemma, and Tar run away together. They find a place to live, food to eat, and they make friends. Out in the open streets, they get into a lot of trouble with the law. Tar and Gemma met new people, and they get into drugs, like heroin. Then there life goes down the drain. I wanted to know why it took the author so long to get into the parts where Tar, Gemma, Lily, and everybody starts to do heroin. I didn't like this book at all. It made me want to throw it in the trash.
