Book Reviews of Smack

Book Review: An real page turner that is amazingly written!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read this book in 2 days. And I mean, non-stop reading! It really is an amazing book with characters that have so much depth I feel as if I know them personally. This book is for any teenager that is looking for a great read! The British lingo is really cool and I have been saying "crisps" and "bloke" for the past week!! This is a book for everyone,I do not see how anyone would not like it! SO c'mon, go buy it from Amazon now!!

Book Review: Another boring book...
Summary: 3 Stars

Much like Pure Sunshine (Brian James, PUSH), this book focuses on druggie teenagers. However, this shows life after and somewhat before the addiction. It also demonstrates the dangers of heroin and other highly-addicting drugs.
I had the impression that Melvin Burgess was trying a little bit too hard to make his writing sound up-to-date. While the subculture references were somewhat dated and stale, he did manage to infuse the typical Punk anarchist mindset quite well.
The book started to become quite lacking during the middle, and because of this it only gets a 3.

Book Review: As addictive as the drug itself
Summary: 4 Stars

Smack is an amazing, powerful, amazingly powerful book. It portrays a side of the world that you don't normally see. It pulls you head first into a world of drugs, sex, and booze. Mainly drugs, particularly smack (smack, junk, heroin, whatever floats your boat). And there are some strange parallels between smack and Smack. When you start the book, you think, "This is a good book. I like it. I can take it or leave it, but I'd rather take it." Then, as the book progresses you find it harder and harder to put down. And when you HAVE to put it down for something else, you find your mind wandering back to the book, and you become more absorbed in its reality than your own. And finally, you may as well be surgically attached to it, because you just CAN'T put it down. And (here's where it's different) when it's all over and the dust clears, you have NO regrets. So, I guess, the book is better than the drug. But read it in moderation because you may get so wrapped up in the characters' lives and neglect your own, eventually causing your friends and family to leave you all alone with Smack. And the lesson: Be careful with Smack, kids; it could ruin your life.

Book Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was great. It started out alright, but as you get farther, the book really progresses and kind of takes on a mind of its own. It really dragged me into its world. I couldn't put the book down. I finished it in a couple of days over all. A week and a half at most. I got real into all of the characters and by the end, my opinion on most of them had taken a complete 360. It's great and so realistic. There are no heros in this book, just reality. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it. The only thing I didn't like was the times it seemed a bit racist. But it was very rare, and again, just keeping it realistic.
I liked it. I guess you can say I really got hooked on Smack.

Book Review: Awsome to read if you've ever felt like wanting to run away
Summary: 5 Stars

The book smack was the best book. I read it three times! I really related to the things that Gemma was going through with her parents. I also think her and tar were very brave. The narrative style is very unique and give a really clear picture. A definate book for everyone to read!
