I've read all of the Dresden series and I think Butcher gets better as he goes. This one fits comfortably in the fantasy-detective-noire genre, is excellently paced, sprinkles in references to pop culture that give the characters a "real" feel, and the dialog made me laugh out loud more than a few times. This book was awesome. Brilliantly written, funny as sin, engaging action and clever plot. Ever have one of those books where you get shamefully attached to the characters? Ever think "Hmmm... actually, ghouls would make an awful lot of sense in this situation?" Ever find yourself thinking that Harry Dresden's explanations of the mechanics of the fae world interacting with (and being steadfastly ignored by) our mortal world make more sense than what's on the evening news? This book draws you in in true Jim Butcher fashion. I can't wait until the next one...
