Book Review: A Beautiful Book about Great Love

This novel is lyrical, rich and poetic. It has a great story line, too.
The book deals with the mysterious death (murder?) of a northwest gill netter
in the 1940's.Interspersed and central to the narrative is the racial conflict be-
tween the white and Japanese islanders in the northwest during World War II.
There is also a grand love affair between the island's newspaper reporter and
the wife of the accused murderer of the gill netter.
The visual quality of the northwest is captured, the story line never falters and
the book manages to capture the uncertainty, nobility and frailty of the human
heart as each of us goes forward in life choosing out own paths.
I highly recommend this books.
