Book Reviews of Something BlueBook Review: Couldn't put the book down!! Summary: 5 Stars
I loved "Something Blue" Darcy was so funny, just how she was and the things she did had me laughing.. I was cheering Darcy on in the book that she would find what she was looking for. If you havent read it do so..I havent yet read "Something Borrowed" but Im going to start in a week...When I read a book it usually takes me a month or so to finish it, But I read "Something Blue" in 2 days.
Book Review: Darcy at it again-with spoilers Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a follow up story of Emily Giffin's book Something Borrowed.
In Something Borrowed the story is told from Rachel's point of view. In Something Blue we get to here from Darcy. At the beginning Darcy comes off as a spoiled brat like she did in Something Borrowed, but by the end of the book I found myself rooting for her and Ethan.
The story goes like this: Darcy found her fiance and her best friend together and got mad. Never mind that at that time she had been sleeping with his best friend as well and she was pregnant by Dex's best friend Marcus.
She is relieved not to be marrying Dex and for a while things are ok with her and Marcus. Then the stuff hits the fan and Darcy decides to move in with her best friend from Indy Ethan who lives in a flat in London.
When she gets to London she and Ethan don't get along to well, but as Darcy's pregnancy gets more advanced they start having feelings for each other. By the end they end up getting married and raising Darcy's twin sons together.
Great book and follow up!
Book Review: Darcy is still a **@@***!!! Summary: 5 Stars
A really enjoyable book. This is the follow on from Something Borrowed. Darcy is pregnant and has been "dumped" by all her friends. Darcy is obssessed with Rachael and Dex (her ex fiancee and ex best friend who are now in a happy relationship with each other.) Darcy decides to escape to England and stay with her schoolfriend, Ethan. This is well written and good fun. Does Darcy see the errors of her selfish, self centred "all about me ways?" You need to read it to find out but this is a book worth reading. The title of this review may give you a little hint. Great stuff!
Book Review: Darcy not so bad... Summary: 3 Stars
I found both "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue" to be engaging stories- and better written than most 'chick lit' novels out there. However, I did have some issues with them. While the narcissistic Darcy is admittedly hard to sympathize with, I found it even harder to like Rachel, who struck me as pathologically passive. How are we supposed to believe this woman, who has let her best friend steamroll over her their whole lives is a high powered lawyer? She seems way too meek for such an aggressive profession. And that impression was not improved in the rest of "Something Borrowed". Throughout her relationship with Dex, she never confronts him about his duplicity, never asks him what he is going to do, whether he is going to break up with Darcy. He is only forced into discussing it with her, when her friend Hillary confronts him, and this seems to not anger her in the least. As for Dex, I could not understand what all the fuss was about- he seemed very dull, stiff, pretentious and worst of all, given the part he played in everything, righteous. Ethan, however, I felt was infinitely the better catch. Emily Giffin even describes him (through Darcy's eyes) as adorable, witty, smart and good. Who would not fall in love with someone like that? Darcy's life in New York may have been frivolous, but in the end, she ends up with the bigger prize anyway (Ethan)- thereby one-upping Rachel yet again. So if the moral of the story is that being vain and shallow will only lead to ruin and disappointment- these novels don't quite get there. Darcy is flawed and self-involved through much of the two novels, but at least she is interesting and dynamic, which was more than I could say for Rachel.
Book Review: Darcy's side Summary: 4 Stars
It was nice to see Darcy's side of things for once. I was glad Giffen gave us a new perspective with this one.
