Book Reviews of Son of Stitch 'n Bitch: 45 Projects to Knit and Crochet for Men

Book Review: Very helpful
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book along with "Teach Yourself Visually: Knitting" and I love it. I love the patterns that come in the book and I love how she wrote the book. It's very easy to understand. I thought the "Teach Yourself Visually" would be the better of the two but I found that reading this book, it was easier to understand. There is a sense of humor in the way it's written also. I'm not sure how to say it, but it doesn't have an only-older-people-can-knit feel to it. I would recommend this book to anyone!

Book Review: Knitter, beware!
Summary: 2 Stars

There are so many errors in the pattern instructions that beginning knitters should avoid this book altogether. Only the experienced knitter will be able to spot the errors, ignore them, and piece things together with the help of the photos.

Clearly, the publishers managed to cover the cost of the (for once!) beautiful photos and attractive models by skimping on professional editing and proofreading.

Stoller's Web site, which posts errata for her other books, offers no help for the errors in this book, now in its second year after publication. I suspect the errata would be longer than the book itself. Knitter, beware!

Book Review: fun projects but patterns may not be tried and true!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have all of Debbie Stollers books (even the Crochet/Happy Hooker that I gave to mom, which she ended up re-gifting back to me, because as a grandma, she has no time for it!)
Well, I love most of the patterns in "Son of A" and all of her other books, but have found many of them to be rife with errors.. I have already knit one of the sweaters in this book, " The Cobra sweater" and it knit up just fine, but have used a few of her other patterns in the other 2 knitting books, and can only say, thank goodness she had already printed the errata, as they all had mistakes in them. As an intermediate knitter, I am not yet at the level of being able to spot and fix a pattern error right away, and suffice to say, if something doesn't make sense and you are already deep into the work, it is very consternating!.
I only wish Debbie and her knit book team put as much effort into making sure the patterns are error free, as well as clear and easy to understand, instead of focusing on how cute both the garments and the choice of models are....It would make for a much happier and less frustrating knitting experience

Book Review: Some Great Projects, Some Crappy Projects
Summary: 4 Stars

I absolutely love most of the patterns in this book. The other ones are just too funky or ugly for me to consider making. It's well over half of the patterns that are great though. It's not easy to find some good patterns for the modern man and this book is good for that. Maybe some of the ugly ones would look better with a different color palette.

My favorite projects are the Uncle Argyle Scarves, Celtic Beanie, Half-Pipe Hat, Beer Gloves, Biker Boy (sweater), Speed Racer (sweater), Treads (socks), Tubey (socks).

Book Review: TItle is extremely misleading
Summary: 2 Stars

I will be returning this book. Only 5 of the 45 projects are for crochet. Some of the knitting projects look cool but I can't knit and have no desire to learn. The crochet projects are terrible. As a guy I can say without a doubt that I will not be making any of them.
