I bought the DVD from ASDA for.. ?8 I think?
Knew NOTHING about it, saw the blurb on the back... porn star, apocolypse, Sarah Michelle Gellar, drug use... hmm sounds like it may be alright.
Watched the film, and... yeah was a little hard to get into at first but I did really enjoy it.
I think I saw the extras at the end, some interview with either Richard Kelly or one of the crew and it mentioned about the three graphic novels which basically prequel the film... so I bought it and I must say it seems to explain certain aspects in a bit more depth.
The one thing I will say is to read the book then see the film, there's a fair bit of overlap. However, Kelly's original idea of releasing the book six months prior to the film... it's a good technique to refresh the reader/viewer on events rather than launch straight into "this is the way the world ends."
I really don't know what else to say, I'm now reading it for the second time, and I've only had it a week - read it in a day first time round because it was that gripping... it even includes extracts from Krysta's second revision of The Power and illustrations shown in the film, such as Pilot Abilene's letter to Roland Tavener.
Final comment - if you're a real Southland Tales fan, you'll buy this book, saw the film, enjoyed it, but felt left with a sense of - heh? BUY THE BOOK!
