Book Review: Speak
Summary: 5 Stars

Recently I have read the book "Speak" by Lauri Halse Anderson. I must say, I have really enjoyed this book! The setting of this book takes place in an average American high school filled with cliques, and gossip. The main character in this story, Melinda Sordino has to not only adjust to high school, but she also has to adjust to the public humiliation and ridicule received from her peers. Melinda's fellow friends terrorize her, only because she called the police at a summer party. Melinda's friends are unaware of what really made her call the police. Melinda had been raped.
Once Melinda started school she refused to talk. Especially since Andy Evans,(The guy who raped her) attended the same school. Andy also was going out with her ex- best friend Rachelle. Over a period of time Melinda finally got the courage to talk to Rachelle about what really happened at the party. Melinda explain to her that she had been raped. Rachelle believed Melinda until she told her that it was her boyfriend that had raped her. Finally Rachelle confronted Andy, and was convinced that Melinda was telling the truth. Once Andy found out that Melinda had been talking to Rachelle, he was outraged! He then forcefully confronted Melinda in the janitor's closet. After all of the screaming and commotion, heard from the outside of the janitor's closet, the lacrosse team came to Melinda's rescue. Shortly after the incident, the rest of the school found out the truth, and Melinda was no longer an outcast.

Book Review: Speak Review
Summary: 5 Stars

My son, who will be a Freshman in the fall, had Speak as one of the summers required reading. I read it and found it to be well written. It is written from a teenage girls perspective. The girl calls the police at a party; and because of this all of the others turn against her during the next school year until they find out why she did it. It shows the reader that some people can be cruel to you and while it may be difficult at the time, you can survive it and things can turn around.

Book Review: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Summary: 5 Stars

Speak has to be one of the greatest teen novels I've read. It gives the reader a sense of depression and excitement and yes, even happiness at the same time. It deals with problems that many teenagers go through in this day and time, but few authors deal with that in a book. Laurie Halse Anderson is brave and beautiful in writing Speak.
I felt close to Melinda. I felt like I knew her from being in her mind, but then we would see a different side of her, and still love her with no doubt. By the middle part of Speak, I was undoubtedly devoted to finishing it and then reading it again, not even reading the end yet.
This book is a great adoption to my bookshelf, and will be read again. I recommend this beautiful book to anyone that can appreciate a book, because you will appreciate Speak.

Book Review: Speak no longer speaks to anyone in the school.
Summary: 5 Stars

When I got the original Accelerated Reader set Speak was one of the books. Well, it "disappeared" as can happen with really good books. One of the teachers recommended the book and that's when I found it missing, so I ordered another one.
It is really well liked by teachers and students (middle school).

Book Review: Speak up
Summary: 5 Stars

It tantilized me from the top shelf in the young adult section of the bookstore many weeks before I had the courage to buy and read it. Sometimes you fear jumping into a book that is so real. Speak, speaks to teens who don't feel like part of the in-crowd, who have to carve their own path through life and highschool. Highschool; that test of life that pushes you beyond limits. Melinda, a heroine if there ever was one, is silenced by an act of violence. Those around her don't understand and don't want to. Those closest to her ignore her, and criticise her. She finds solace in art class with a teacher who simultaneously lets her just be who she is and pushes Melinda to find her voice. Melinda is one of the most courageous women/girls that have ever jumped out of a book. She endures much during the course of the book. Ostracism, ridicule, anger, shame, lonliness but she wins in the end. She finds her voice.
