Book Reviews of Speak (Platinum Edition)Book Review: Speedy Read Summary: 5 Stars
This book was a refreshing reminder of everything I love about reading. The story moved so well and with such ease. I'd say in the manner of Go Ask Alice, it is timeless in message with a character so real that you believe every detail as if you are reading about a friend. I think that many of us have been in situations where we have felt like an outcast. I could relate to Melinda on two levels. Level one being the child in me who dealt with her own issues of feeling outside the circle and had her own secrets to keep. Level two being the mom in me who simply just wanted to grasp Melinda and hold her.

The story was fresh with feeling and a plot that was entirely believable. The torment and changes that take place in someone after an assault can be odd to some people, but as a survivor of a similar experience, I can tell you there is no normal reaction. Each character seemed to be someone you just might know. The student body was compiled of types we all knew. I was transported from page one to another time and another place that somehow I knew as well as my own. To say I loved it is an understatement.
Lastly...the book moved me to emotion. You can't ask for better than that. If you have not read Speak, I highly recommend it.
Book Review: The best book to ~Speak~ by Madison Lacey Summary: 5 Stars
If you have ever been teased, or out side `the in crowd' or a huge break through with in your life you would fall in love with this book. It is heart breaking story at times it even made me cry, or some times it was so funny and how brave she is out standing. To begin it all starts with a girl named Mille she has just started High-School at Merry weather High, She has started school with no friends, wrong clothes, and her old friends ditched her. All because of a party Rachel's brother took the to when they were supposed to be roller skatingbut instead went to a seniors summers party (with beer and drugs and seniors) but will she was there she called the cops.
When she finally makes a friend it is a new girl named Whitney she just moved from Arizona and wants to be a part of the clique the Marsha's (who do ever thing right and have all color coordinated clothes). Then her old best friend Rachel is going out with Andy Evens who is a total purvey then she confronts Rachel about Andy and they become friends again. Then you finaly find out about why she called the cops it was because Any Evens Raped her, when Rachel goes to prom with him he tries to get in her pants she leaves him for a portiagel friend. On the day after prom Melli collects her stuff from her closet and heads for her locker andy Evens Bumps her back in to it.......
Is he going do it again or just talk and if he is going to rape her again what well she do? To learn what happens read the book Speak.
Book Review: Very important to read Summary: 5 Stars
I think this book should be required reading for all middle/high school students. This was at first a work for me to read because of the format it was written in. But well worth the effort. This story brings out many important issues we all need to be aware of and on the look out for. If you can't read the book it is also on DVD and portrayed very close to the book and very nicely done. I would also recommend seeing the movie even if you read the book. I got it from my library.
Book Review: You just don't feel sorry for her. Summary: 1 Stars
Rape is something completely out of your control. You would have had no idea that it was coming. Melinda's "rape" is the classic one night stand where she put it upon herself. The party was simply one of the worst and cliche plot lines I have ever had the displeasure of reading. Once upon a time a girl goes to a party. Nothing could possibly happen... a few drinks... a few hormone driven seniors... not like anything sexual would possibly happen...
She may have been conscious eventually and may have said no but it doesn't matter. She put it upon herself. This book delievers no message of the true horrors of rape and the aftermath of psychological consequences. There was no force involved. She CHOSE to go to that party. She CHOSE to drink. It was a drunken one night stand. Nothing more.
Book Review: a haunting, painful read Summary: 5 Stars
This book is painful, but then again, so is teenage life for many young people. Those who have felt alone, scared, confused and without a voice will not only feel Melinda's pain, but her triumph as she finally finds her voice. However, it is the people who never felt like her at all who need to read this book most of all. Maybe it will help them understand the trials that many of our young ones are going through so that we can find ways to show them that they are not alone.
