Book Review: *~*SPEAK*~* Summary: 5 Stars
The book speak is about a depressed 9th grade girl named Melinda Sordino. The summer before her freshman year Melinda called the police on a party she went to with her friend Rachel. Ever since then all her friends haven't spoken to her and no one in the school likes her. Melinda finds a friend, heather but who later ditches her. What no one knows is that Melinda has a secret about that night at the party, but is too afraid to tell anyone. I thought this was a great book, that many teenagers can relate too. There's a lot of people that other kids think are weird, but this book helped you to see that they could just be going through a rough time. This book is especially good for girls who have been raped, because it can help them see that it isn't their fault and they shouldn't be afraid to tell someone. This book is also good for guys. It shows them that rape can practically destroy a girl's life. It might make them think twice before doing something like this to someone. Plus guys can get raped too even though it may not happen very often. Speak was very well written. It showed great symbolism through Melinda's artwork, the tree in her front yard, and the school mascot just to name a few. I would suggest this book to anyone. I think all teens can get something out of this book whether it be not to drink, about rape, or that they aren't alone and there is always someone you can talk to.

Speak was about a girl name Melinda Sordino, a freshmen at Merry Weather High School, who goes through many problems in life. At the beginning of the book Melinda goes to school with no friends. All of her old friends do not like her anymore. During the summer Melinda called the police when she was at a party. All of her friends got mad because a bunch of people got in trouble for the party. Melinda has to cope with not having friends, her parents fighting all the time, and the fact that she was raped by a boy named Andy Evans. She finds comfort in art class. Mostly because Mr.Freeman, her art teacher, will listen to her. Melinda fixed up an old janitor's closet that she stayed in to get away from everything at school. It felt more like home then her own house. Andy Evans tired to rape her again in that closet. She fought him off and he got in trouble. At the end of the book Melinda opens up and starts to talk to people about her issues. She tells Mr.Freeman what has went on and he listens.

It's a wonderful book. What can I say? It's not because of the themes dealing with "peer pressure" and all that stuff, it just IS. Dark, witty humor and human insight. That's all.
If you really want to know the entire plot of the book, why don't you just check all the other reviews?

This is an amazing novel that I think so many teenagers will be able to relate to. It is told from the point-of-view of a lonely high school freshman who has a secret that is slowly consuming her, but she can't let it out. All of her friends have abondoned her and she gets tortured at school. She has hardly any contact with her parents and feels completely isolated from the rest of the world. This is an incredibly well-written book and I would recommend it to anybody.
