Book Review: "Jed" is a Chiron

Half-way through Jed's first book (Damnest)I got up, went to the bathroom and threw up. I'd been reading that conversation he was having with somebody about "the meaninglessness of life". I got at gut level a truth I've known forever in my head. Jed's wit had me howling with laughter, too. I was smitten from the first by the substance of his subject, by the modern context of story, contemporary language, and his astounding intelligence. It just blew me away.
It bothered me at first that he wasn't heading for a relationship story, but as an emerging adult I now have more respect for a Teacher's "choices". Jed says something about intimacy not working for him, so I put this down to the Centaur's Wound, the invisible-visible limp that gives him entry to shamanic caverns.
Since narcisissim is ubiquitous in the boomer (Pluto in Leo) generation it's probably part of the grand plan. Maybe this is partly why some of us are so alert to the many disguises of helping. I certainly am. I recognise Jed's kind of narsisissm, it's my familiar, integral to personality, not to soul or character. It's the tone of a dispassionately fearless maverik, my kind of Chiron. My soul hasn't had this much serious fun since Osho.
