Book Reviews of Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable HorrorsBook Review: Sorry, Jhonen . . . . Summary: 4 StarsI felt a little let down by this book . . . I hate to say it but it's true. Jhonen Vasquez is a genious . . . There's no disputing that, but I thought the art was less inspired, less spontanious.
But the book did bring back the Meanwhiles, and Jhonen's biographical Meanwhiles are worth the price of the whole book in my opinion ( . . . "No sucky for you on this night!")
Hilarious. Plus the book is full of Wobbly Headed Bob and Happy Noodle Boy, which I don't care for ( the writing is tedious to read). Otherwise, the book is a must have for any Jhonen fan. And that's why I bought it.
Book Review: not as good Summary: 2 Starsit all wright but not as good as Johnny The Homicidal Maniac :(
Book Review: Jhonen triumphs again! Summary: 5 StarsThe dark humour and brilliance is once again seen in Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors. It brings a whole new perspective to monsters in a closet or voices in one's head, and Jhonen's added comments in the margins and cleverly inserted randomly in the drawings only bring a squeal of glee. In all seriousness, it is enthralling and hilarious (even if slightly sadistic), but don't be naive--it's not a children's book.
Book Review: Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors Summary: 5 StarsIt is a fantastic comic book full of hidden messages within every page and created with a unique vision. This particular selection of stories was my inspiration as a kid to search for more work done by Jhonen Vasquez. Some tales are funny, others made like mini horror shows and most are simply intriguing. I highly recommend this book even if you're not into graphic art because you don't have to be a fanatic to enjoy it for what it's worth in entertainment. Forget Invader Zim, this is Old School good.
Book Review: Not as good as Johnny... Summary: 4 StarsBut it's still really good. Rather than following Johnny and his adventures, this book centers on Squee. From being abducted by aliens to fighting giant bugs, Squee really doesn't get a chance to rest. If JTHM was too dark for you, Squee would definitely be a good choice. You get Squee, and then after that, you get the infamous 'Meanwhiles' and 'Wobbly-Headed Bob' series. This comic is recommended to anyone with a dark sense of humor or any fan of Vasquez's other works. Pure genius.
