My 5 year old was getting bored with his first set of reading books and needed something more interesting and challenging. These are perfect. They're colorful, humorous, and he finds the simple story lines interesting. A great way to further his reading skills.Book Review: These books really work!!! Great for learning to read.

I just ordered these books on Monday. I received them on Tuesday. My stepdaughter (5 yo) has read two of them so far. The books are great with beginning to read words. There is a smooth transition from book 1 through 15. They focus on different vowel sounds in each one. She absolutely loves the website, as well. You can even check out the website without purchasing the books ([...]). There are sound exercises you can go over first, and then the whole book is online. There are also short movies after some of the books. The Starfall books and website are great. I highly recommend them. Book Review: Satisfied Customer

The books are very basic, and I think they will work well with my children. However, I don't like the way the story line can be completely lost in the effort to keep it simple and repetitious. For instance, in "Zac the Rat", it goes from Zac being on the can to Zac needing to clean up jam. It leaves out a page, that I think would make the book so much better. It just needs to say, "Zac spilled the jam," or something like that. Also, ants just show up in the jam and Zac has to get rid of them, but there is no mention of ants coming to the jam in the story. You just have to infer that from the picture and the following pages that mention the ants. I think it would make it so much better if a page said, "The ants ran to the jam." That's simple, uses words that are repeated in the book, and helps make the connection to what happens next. You can tell what happened in the pictures, but I just think it would be better if they connected the dots a little better in the words. Overall, I am happy with the product; I just have that one little qualm. I realize they are trying to keep the books very simple and on target for the lesson they teach, but I think they could have done it a little better by having an easier to follow story.Book Review: daughter loves them

My 5 yr old loves reading to us and she's even taken the first one to school for show and tell to read to the kids. The books are numbered and each ascending number is slightly more difficult to read. She's already learned the first few and is working her way through them. These are perfect for the pre-k and K ages.
