Book Review: When is a 1 an I?
Summary: 4 Stars
Most interesting in this book is the story of General Ormsby McKnight Mitchel who approved of the raid on the railroad. A fifteen year old plebe at West Point who graduated high in his class and went on to become a respected astronomer, mathematician, and college professor, Mitchel was a true genius who was, disparagingly, referred to as General Stars. An impatient leader who could not tolerate incompetence, Mitchel, early in the war drove deeply into Confederate territory and managed to capture, among other places, Huntsville AL almost without firing a shot.
While I was fascinated by many of the details in the book, I kept noticing, and then annoyed, that the book always used a capital "I" wherever the numeral "1" was intended. All the 1860's dates became I861 and etc. I don't mean to be picky, but what is going on here? Was there no editing?
