Book Reviews of Stillness Speaks

Book Review: 17 Dollar Hamburger
Summary: 1 Stars

For seventeen dollars I expected much, much more from this book. This was a waste of time and I felt while reading this little book that I was never getting my money's worth. For seventeen dollars I expected a full-course meal filled with insights and memorable thoughts, instead all I got was a bunch of chopped liver that was disposable. What was the author thinking when he sat down and wrote this silly volume that probably took him about 20 minutes to write. Seventeen dollars for this. Come on, give readers like me a break!!!

Book Review: 5 stars +
Summary: 5 Stars

A wondrous book that continues to point the way to our inner stillness. These 'teachings' very simply say and show one how to be still and to Be with this stillness. Reminding us of the Golden Thread the connects all of the original Teachings from throughout the ages, the words are arranged in short paragraphs that impact our Being beyond the mind, allowing more Stillness to emerge.

Even as some people, perhaps through the ego, have expected this book to have more words and new messages, Stillness Speaks reminds us of true simplicity and purpose of a Conscious Life. Simply by holding this book, one might feel the energy of the book, the teachings, the consciousness emanating from within it.

If anyone has disliked or loved any of Eckhardt Tolle's books, tapes, or videos; its important to listen and to read the words and pointers over and over again. Each time a new 'understanding' will come through for each of us. Sometimes it seems like reading a 'new' book ... same 'words', yet a greater and deeper knowing.

There is nothing to anticipate with this work or this material, simply to Be with it, and to Be with What Is.

With gratitude to Eckhardt.

Book Review: A 'real' approach
Summary: 4 Stars

When I bought 'Stillness Speaks' from my local bookstore, I was not prepared for what I would be getting in return. I have not yet read 'The Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle but did know that he was in my hometown last year for a brief seminar. Now I feel what a great opportunity I missed out on as I could not make it to the same.

'Stillness Speaks' does not ask you or teach you any dogmas or religious practices. Instead it directly leads you to the answer we are all searching for. I like this book especially because Mr. Tolle does not seem to be a loquacious writer yet very beautifully manages to convey the message. I have often felt tempted to put away these kind of books because there is no connection from one part to another. But this book has captured and retained my interest since I laid my hands on it.

There are several distinct entries in this book labeled 'Stillness & Silence' and 'Beyond the Thinking Mind' to "Suffering & the End of Suffering.' Each word in this book is mesmerizing and Real. When I hold a book in my hand, I like to think how the writer must have felt while writing it. I like to visualize the writer's feelings and emotions while I read a book.

This book has given me profound peace and a clearer view of what I am looking for. All though I have still not found what I am looking for, this book surely did help in making me more confident that I am on the right track.

These days my grandma's health is not keeping up with the radiant and beautiful personality that she is; I read to her a few lines from this book and I instantly knew that she felt peace and found great comfort in Mr. Tolle's words. Thank you Eckhart Tolle for this marvellous book and for bringing comfort, calm and peace to my grandma. Without question, this book will always find a special place in my heart and my bookshelf.

Book Review: A Booklet--Not a Book
Summary: 1 Stars

I liked the Power of Now, but this followup really need not be published, because there is nothing new here. If all the spaces between the paragraphs were taken out, then this booklet would be about 50 pages and the thoughts on those pages have all been said before. One of the most glaring mistakes is what Tolle has to say about nature. He says learn from nature on how to be still. Hahahha. Gee, nature is moving all the time. The universe is expanding, cells divide and mountatins move. To say that nature stands still and stillness speaks really says volumes about how naive Tolle is and why some of his stated beliefs are just flat out wrong. I think what really speaks is the high price of this book given its slim size. That says more than anything!

Book Review: A Gem from Eckhart
Summary: 5 Stars

Once again Eckhart has graciously given us pristine gems of reflective wisdom that go right to the core of our being. This small yet powerful book greets us with straight-talk about the graceful importance of allowing life to arise without the chattering mind and various emotional states compulsively commenting on, dominating, and coloring what otherwise can be directly realized as the naked suchness of life. Anyone who has met Eckhart in person readily recognizes that he embodies the title of his book.
