Book Review: 30 years.....

I'm in my mid 40s now. I went undiagnosed and untreated for over 30 years. You see, I had a violent attack when I was 9 years old, thumbs were dug into my thyroid gland while the person tried to choke me out. The next day, I had a thyroid storm. My temp spiked up to 105.8, I was given alcohol baths and ice baths. No one bothered to check the thyroid.
When I was 16, I spent a considerable amount of time at the library researching my symptoms and figured out that it must be my thyroid. I put my life in the hands of my doctor and asked him to test my thyroid only to have him laugh at me. He would be the first in nearly a dozen doctors that I would ask to test my thyroid who would all ultimately NOT test my thyroid. My health declined consistently - I went through the pregnancies with both my children undiagnosed and untreated. I'm so grateful they turned out as well as they have.
I was finally diagnosed 5 years ago and put on synthetic T4 only. What a joke! My brain fog didn't go away, my health status didn't improve. Then, yet another doctor I had entrusted my life to gave me a drug that nearly killed me. Not kidding! I started researching again. If I couldn't buy a certain book, I would make copies of relevant pages - so that I could refer to them as I moved along. I finally convinced a doc (had to practically beg) to give me T4 + T3 and that was a dramatic improvement. I started functioning better and was able to think clearly again for the first time in so many years.
Then I read Janie's book. I learned some things and tried some things. I felt EVEN BETTER. Then I read Janie's book again and learned more and tried more. For the first time in a LONG, LONG time, I feel like I'm on the right track and I feel so much BETTER than I have in SO LONG. I feel as though my life is in MY hands, not some arbitrary person who thinks they're a god. I'm keeping it that way.
