Book Review: The Book that Changed My Life... Literally.
Summary: 5 Stars
I wish I had more time to write the thorough and complimentary review that this book deserves, maybe another day. For now, I will sum up how I feel by saying it was a read that changed my life. I am the proud parent of two Netherland Dwarf Rabbits, Louis and Thumper, and a life-long animal lover. I received this book as a Christmas gift not long after I got my little bunny loves. The book not only shed much-needed insight into the complicated lives of rabbits, but gave me a much wider perspective on the horrors that so many of them suffer within the meat and pet industries. I have never been a fan of meat, but grew up with it on my plate; so, going vegetarian seemed like a non-option, especially with my exceptionally picky palate. However, after reading about the tragedy that is the meat rabbit's life, and knowing how other meat animals suffer as well, it forced me to sit down and seriously contemplate my consumption habits. It was a Cornish Hen that put the final nail in the coffin for me. I couldn't help but think that my two little rabbits, about the size of a Cornish Hen at the time, would look very similar skinned, beheaded, and dismembered sitting on someone's plate. I have been a vegetarian since (about 5 years now). I am completely thankful to the authors of this book and to my family for buying it for me. I cannot begin to explain the self-satisfaction that has come with my lifestyle change, not to mention it was a generally interesting read that I could not put down. I highly recommend this book to all rabbit and animal lovers and suggest it even more insistently to those who are not.
