Book Reviews of Suffer in SilenceBook Review: Constant Catharsis Summary: 5 Stars
Reid provides a descriptive narration of the internal struggle to keep `mind over matter' while enduring the constant beating dished out by the instructors. His writing style allowed me to wholly absorb myself into the plot. I found myself eager to get to the next page as the story continues to develop towards the climatic resolution. Every plot twist invokes a new emotion. Enjoy. I did!
Book Review: Good Read Summary: 4 Stars
Book follows author as he tries to complete SEAL BUDS training and the personal "drama" with his fellow classmate and instructors. The actual BUDS training and Hell Week is very interesting. The author adds his emotional feelings also and there is a more negative focus about the BUDS training then the prior SEAL books Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10 by Seal Marcus Luttrell and The Warrior Elite: The Forging of SEAL Class 228 by Dick Crouch. Not sure if the author actually completed his Seal training to get his Trident after his ordeal of Hell Week.
Would recommend: Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10 by Seal Marcus Luttrell or The Warrior Elite: The Forging of SEAL Class 228 by Dick Crouch.
Book Review: Good Read Summary: 4 Stars
I found the book very gripping and intense. Well written. By far the most well documented first few weeks of SEAL training I have read. However bit disappointed that the story ends after Hell Week. Would have like to see what the next phase was like. Makes me wonder whether the author ever completed the entire BUDS program. Either way, if your into stories about SEAL training this is a good book.
Book Review: Good book, but it ends before the story is over. Summary: 4 Stars
This book really gives the average reader a good idea of what SEAL training is all about. However, this book ends at hell week, and does not finish the story about the rest of the specialized training. I was really encouraged to read that SEAL training has not been softened up. It is no wonder they are still an elite fighting unit.
Book Review: Good read Summary: 4 Stars
Good book. Although labeled as fiction, the content and realism in describing the BUD/S experience is as accurate a portrayal as you'll find without actually going through it. The author did an excellent job of painting a very accurate picture of the raw experience. If you are considering going for it, this is a "must" read. It also may be helpful to any youngster considering entering one of the service academies as it explains the funk that settles in a persons mind when taking rounds from multiple directions with no end in sight.
