Book Review: 14-year-old Bookworm's Opinion

I am quickly labeled by everyone who meets me as a bookworm or a bibliophile (depending on their age). I, as you may be able to figure out on your own, have read many, many, many, MANY books in my short lifetime, and this book has got to be within the top two everything I have ever read. I first read this book when I was 11 and I re-read it faithfully at least twelve times a year. I identify with Vix in how she is a little shy of boys at first and very obedient of her parents, as when Bru and Von offer them a ride and she doesn't want to hitch-hike. My very best friend, whom I have known since kindergarten, I identify with Caitlin. She has always been more street-smart and experienced than me. I am often in awe of her. She is forward and outgoing, much like Caitlin. This book was also very realistic. It wouldn't have been anywhere near as good if Vix had married her first love, Bru. That is very untrue to life. I cried at the end when...well, I won't give it away to those who haven't read it yet. I was so disappointed at first when Vix didn't marry Bru, but then I realized that Gus was still a good match for her and that it really would have been too good to be true if the book had ended happily, with Vix and Bru marrying and living next door to Caitlin and Von. Their kids would have been perfect and they would get together every Sunday for dinner. THis would have made the book too sickly sweet. It would have nothing to set it apart from all the other books I have read. Please read it...open the door of your heart to a story of teens and love. Remember.
