Book Reviews of Sundays at Tiffany's

Book Review: A-, Not for Typical James Patterson Fans
Summary: 5 Stars

This book gets an A- because it was:

A) Different story, not a recycled one
B) Couldn't put it down
C) Light, easy reading

I think the poor ratings I've seen on this book is because a lot of James Patterson fans were expecting something similar to his past books. From what I read of the other bad reviews, everyone seemed disappointed that this book came from Patterson.

Setting that aside, let's assume that someone else wrote this book. Suspend your belief and read it for what it is. The book is about a little girl who has an imaginary friend, Michael, who she loves. He leaves her on her 9th birthday and she spends the rest of her life missing him even though she moves on without him.

Now, as far as imaginary friends go, once he leaves they are both supposed to forget about each other eventually. Yet she doesn't. And neither does he. In the imaginary friend circle, if you're an imaginary friend, you get recycled. Going from one child to the next, but you get breaks in between. Eventually you forget them.

The book doesn't delve into the whole imaginary friend world. Like who created them, how did they come into existence, or whatnot. You just have to fill in the blanks as the author doesn't tell you. I can see how some readers might even be annoyed by this.

Employment as an imaginary friend allows you to conjure up money at will as money does not motivate imaginary friends. That is how they are able to rent apartments and pay for cab fare when they are on breaks in between assignments. Like I said, suspend your belief. If you can get past this, you should enjoy this book. If you can't, you go into the camp of people who hate this book.

Think about it. Hollywood puts out tons of movies with totally crazier things. Remember that John Travolta movie, Michael, about an angel? So, what if the story is totally believable about real life and there is one very odd thing about it that makes it sound unreal? That is what you get when you read fiction.

I don't want to do a full book synopsis because what's the point in reading the book then? In a nutshell, 2 people find each other against all odds (sounds cliche', but it is) and they go through it as they find out more about themselves and each other.

This is such an easy read, you can read it on a Saturday and finish. It is a cute and easy book. If you don't like cute, don't read this.

Summary: 3 Stars

THIS BOOK SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADVERTISED AS A WOMEN'S NOVEL. JAMES PATTERSON SEEMS TO BE PUTTING HIS NAME ON ANYTHING TO MAKE A PROFIT FOR HIMSELF AND WHOMEVER HE DEIGNS TO BE A CO-WRITER.

THE STORY ITSELF IS OKAY IN A WOMEN'S KIND OF WAY AND MY LADY FRIEND ENJOYED IT IMMENSELY. I PERSONALLY PREFER HIS MYSTERY NOVELS.

Book Review: Absolutely Fabulous!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this book! It was a great easy read with short chapters. I like that it was a light romance which I do not normally like.
I am a huge Patterson fan and just loved the change. Where is everyone's imagination? I think you should definately give those one a read I don't think you will be disappointed.

Book Review: Absurdly wonderful
Summary: 5 Stars

Is the premise plausible? Of course not! "What if your imaginary friend from childhood was your one true love?" It's printed right on the front of the book. I read it and I was intrigued, and at the same time skeptical. The truth is, once you get past the crazy-sounding premise that imaginary friends actually exist, it is totally believable and so romantic. Patterson has crafted the perfect man as only could be done with an imaginary man. What other man could be so perfect? He's handsome, sexy, compassionate, intelligent, gentle, wise, strong, and a wonderful listener. He does an excellent job of making you believe his fairy tale -- you find yourself immersed in the story and forgetting about the obvious fact that imaginary friends don't actually exist. By the end, you are on the edge of your seat and hoping that everything works out for the unlikely couple. There are a couple of twists and turns, which you kind of have to expect when the prologue of the book is a small snippet of the ending and it doesn't paint a nice picture. To say more would give away too much. This book was an easy read and I found it engrossing. Chick-lit? Absolutely!

This book would make a great movie in my opinion. As I read the book, the scenes played out in my head just like a movie -- a testament to the writing for sure. I couldn't picture anyone but Holland Taylor playing Vivienne Margaux. And for some reason, Carter Oosterhouse came to mind for Michael. Would love to see this book hit the big screen!

Book Review: An absolute confection of a love story
Summary: 5 Stars

I thought this book was great! I have a pretty demanding job, so I don't have much time to read. This book demanded my attention for it was JUST that engrossing. It is a bit two-dimensional but I have to say that it's still intriguing, humorous, sad and romantic. You, the reader are still pulled into the novel. It was almost like reading a daydream. A happy one at that. I highly recommend this book!
