Book Reviews of TEKKONKINKREET: Black & WhiteBook Review: DUH. Summary: 5 Stars"Duh" and yet five stars? That Duh was for me. I was disappointed because when I opened the Amazon box and discovered TEKKEON KINKREET was in black
and white.
I'd thought that B&W label referred to the main
characters, Black and White. See? Duh. On me.
Other than that, I'd thought the cartoon style would reflect the anime, which is great and in full color, which prompted me to buy this book.
Duh #2, then.
Still, it's a very good, very big book and very Zen-like.
So Five Stars. See the anime, it's great. Now Ima gonna go
and actually read the book.
Book Review: great story...bad format Summary: 4 StarsI read this series at a bookmans about ten years ago and was really excited to see it coming out at a single volume set since the volume 1 had gone out of print.
My only problem with this set is the flipping of the manga into a comic so that everything is reversed. I really like the way tokyopop releases manga since they keep it in the traditional right to left format instead of flipping the page so that everything is backwards but more in tuned to american reading standards.
But if you have not read this yet, pick it up, you will not be dissapointed at all.
Book Review: A masterpiece. Summary: 5 StarsThis might be the best graphic novel ever written, and I don`t say that lightly. It`s a shame that it doesn`t have a wide circulation in Europe and US. It`s pretty much impossible to compare to anything else, Tekkon Kinkreet it`s the most lyrical and at at the same time the most anti-conformist comic you`ll ever read. Think Miyazaki, Tank Girl and Takeshi Kitano all wrapped up in one story that is so good it hurts. Just get it, if you like indie comics chances are this is your new favorite one.
Book Review: Simple Story, Amazing Art Work! Summary: 5 StarsWhat a great book! The art work is like nothing I've seen...The story is simple but heart felt, and the characters easy to identify with. While I can tell that the translation took a lot away from the original ( I can read some Kanji characters, and I could see some of the left over original text was more incorporated into the artwork), it still kept to the mood and the atmosphere pretty well.... I read this book in 4 hours because it was so hard to put down.
