Book Review: Commendable Effort
Summary: 4 Stars
Upon examining the book's cover, I thought 'Cheesy'. Then I remembered not to judge a book by it's cover. I bought it because I had never read Modern Military Horror and I wanted to give it a chance.
I found it to be an interesting, original, well conceived story. I won't go into plot synopsis here. Read the dust-jacket. I want to share the opinion that I found the 4 main characters of this book were well drawn, but could have had a little more depth. Sometimes the story seemed choppy (a chapter could be 2 pages long) and the language/description is sparse in some places. But despite all the very minor complaints, it was a GOOD story. And, isn't that what getting your first novel published is all about? Producing a good story?
Admittedly, had this been a book by a seasoned author, I would have given it 3 stars instead of 4, but I think he did well for a 1st timer. Next time, I won't be so lenient ;P
