Book Review: Twisted Sister (Monsters of a Good Read)

A long time ago, when I was in high school, my friend Jason gave me this book for my birthday. I remember unwrapping it, studying the cover photo of Dee Snider's grinning, grotesquely painted face, and politely asking Jason, "Um,thanks, it's great, I guess, but why exactly did you get this for me?" "Because you wanna rock, man!" he hollered, slapping me on the back. "I do?" "Yeah! You're not gonna take it anymore!" "I'm not?" "No! You're gonna stay hungry!" "I am?" "Aw yeah! You're stayin chrool to your scuel!" "What?" This continued for awhile till the bell rang and we rushed off to class. Anyway, though I thought Goldstein really captured the heady excitement of a young rock band giving voice to my generation, I found the tone pendantic and the prose a bit turgid. All in all, an important, if flawed, work.
