Book Reviews of TailsBook Review: Fun book... Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this book for my 17 month old son. He really likes it and so do I. The text is fun to read and the flaps, pulls, and textures on the pages delight him. The pull tabs on the pages are sturdy and large enough that he can do them himself. I like that it is interactive and he can touch and feel and have the tabs or flaps to figure out also. This book is fantastic; durable and well made; a great book for toddlers.
Book Review: Fun, educational, a real winner Summary: 5 Stars
This is a charming and fun book. Everyone I have bought it for (including my own toddlers/preschoolers) has loved it. The tactile pieces are interesting, the characters mischevious, the paper sturdy and the moveable pieces fun. The ending pullout with the whale makes for an interesting ending.
Book Review: Good but . . . Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good book with wonderful art and interactive features for children to play with. My 17 month-old likes this one a lot. There are furry tails to pet, bumpy tails to feel, rough tails to scratch and colorful tails to gaze at (the peacock is wonderful). Children should enjoy this book and since it seems very well constructed (nice, thick board pages) it should last them for a while.
Now for the "but" part. 1) It's not very story-heavy. The main focus is on the visuals and the opportunities for children to interact with the book. I would have like a story of some sort to go along with it.
2)A "scratch and sniff" SKUNK? Really? I tried it once and it made me nauseous to the point I almost got sick. I'm one of those weird people who like the smell of skunks (maybe not a direct shot of it, but passing by a sprayed area in the car makes me inhale a deep whiff) but the stench in the book was sickening. I like the idea of "scratch and sniff" in a book (especially now that my daughter is getting into smelling things) but not a Skunk! If tell her to sniff it she would probably never sniff anything else I told her to again.
Anyway, still worth the 5 stars. It's a good, solid purchase.
Book Review: Good little book all around Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this book for both my daughter and a friend's son, after seeing it in a waiting room and realizing she was having a lot of fun with it.
It combines nicely drawn and often humorous animals, textures and fake fur as well as tabs to pull on and animate some of the scenes. The rhyming text is simple yet well written and lends itself to reading aloud with the child. It even has a "scratch and sniff" patch, which was a kick for an 80s kid like me, though thankfully it doesn't actually smell like a skunk.
Good book all around for the 18 to 30 month set
