Book Review: Charming

I ordered this book because I'm really into communication with the devic kindom. I guess it started when I read The Secret Life of Plants (a great name for a great book!). I heard Peter and Eileen Caddy speak of their adventures at Findhorn and later visited it myself. While there, one of my jobs was transcribing Dorothy MacLean's communications with plants. I was blown away! Later I heard her speak. I was an early fan of Machaelle Small Wright's work at Perelandra and managed to make it there....so I'm really into this stuff!
I mention all of this to show that I am a true believer in the possibility of communication with nature intelligence!!
Lesley's communications with plants are very different from the others I've read. He is very funny and asks cute, off-beat questions. I thorougly enjoyed reading every word. The book is presented beautifully with lovely illustrations and gorgeous handmade paper. It's really a terrific book, and a great gift idea for someone who is open to this world.
However, gee, I hate to say this... but I do have a hard time believing that these "messages" are really from the plants. It's not that I believe that plants can't have a sense of humor, but the messages smack more of the mentality of a smart, hip LA guy than a philodrendron or a palm tree.
What is important is the idea that there is intelligence in nature and that it sure doesn't hurt for us to slow down and take time to notice our wonderful green friends. I've had a few conversations with my plants since reading this book and frankly I suspect that I'm making them up, too.
I am not at all accusing Carbaga of fraud. I believe that he thinks that the plants are generating this information. Maybe it doesn't really matter.
If you are sincerely interested in what plants have to say, I heartily recommend Dorothy MacLean's books. Her information was proven to be "true" by virtue of the fact that, when acted upon, the Findhorn gardens flourished in miraculous ways. No one could have made up such knowledge.
