Book Review: Good subject matter, not so well delivered...

Bessonov is the first to admit he is not a good writer and unfortunately this is not just false modesty. I enjoy history from a personal level, the human experience, and the chance to read about the war from a Russian point of view made me jump at buying this book.Yeah, it is an account of how it was for a young Russian Officer in the invasion of Germany.. but I didn't really engage with the author and found myself skipping pages, especially when a half a page is spent listing names of Officers who were there at a given time and place, when I know nothing about them and have no cause to care whether they were there or not.
Others may enjoy this more but after reading the prosaic accounts of Guy Sajers 'The forgotten soldier' I just found this book too dry, an honest account I am sure, but it failed to keep me reading.
