Book Review: Tanya and the Earth Saving Project
Summary: 3 Stars

"Tanya's Big Green Dream" is a wonderful book to start with before introducing a class project for Earth Day. The book is also really good for young readers to learn about the many different ways they can help save the Earth (by recycling, conserving water, etc). This is a short novel with small chapters with black and white pictures. The story begins as the students of a class are trying to decide on the different projects they want to complete that has to do with "creating a cleaner greener world." One problem that prevents this book from being a really attractive book is that it is difficult to figure out who Tanya is in pictures with other children. There are also times where Tanya looks older for her age and creates a confusing image of who Tanya is. On the other hand the story provides several different obstacles that are realistic and that are ones children need to think about when doing a project. Even with the confusing pictures, this book does provide children several ideas on how they can save the Earth and introduces some obstacles for them to think about when getting involved in the Earth activities.
