Book Review: Not the Easiest Way to Learn Spanish

My wife and I who are seeking to learn Spanish ordered the DVD and looked foreward to its arrival. When it came my wife was out so I decided on a sneak preview before her return. However, I found that the dialogue, when it eventually came, was somewhat inaudible and I put this down to a slight hearing difficulty on my part, and therefore I put the DVD away in its case. A day or two later, my wife suggested that we watch the programme together. I therefore set the programme running. I would advise the reader that once the menu is opened you will observe what seems an eternity cartoons of the main characters accompanied by music. When this eventually comes to its conclusion you are taken to the opening scene and are shown a duck in the picture and advised that one is in each of the scenes and requested to count how many you could see. A complete waste of time if you are endeavouring to follow the plot. The film is in animation and the characters speak in Spanish, this is then explained in English, at the start the phrase or saying is sometimes repeated, although, this tails off completely as the story unfolds. My wife, whose hearing is perfect, commented almost immediately, that she was unable to understand what the character was saying and the pronunciation was unclear. This was further compounded by the fact that as the figures were animated watching the lips, was contrary to the sound, anyway. I think that the idea was a good one that went wrong.
I suggest the film maker remake it, using human beings rather the animated figures, in this way the emphasis on pronunciation of the words can be much more effective. Furthermore, in the dialogue each of the salient words or phrases can be repeated more slowly to enable the recipient to absorb them, this plus the appropriate spelling shown at the bottom of the screen would ensure better understanding and retention of the information. As for the hidden ducks I WOULD SUGGEST THEY STAY HIDDEN.
I was convinced by reading the comments of the lady in your write up to buy this DVD,I can only hope that you will also print my comments to redress the balance.
