Book Reviews of Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy LessonsBook Review: My son just turned 4 and is reading! Summary: 5 StarsWe are only a third of the way into this book and my son is already reading the level 1 readers I've bought him. Although he was already familiar with the phonics of the alphabet, he was not aware of how to "string" sounds into words--until this book! The first few lessons alone have been invaluable, and now he's "stringing," or rather reading, everything he encounters. It hasn't always been smooth sailing. Because my 4-year-old son is highly spirited, it's been a real challenge at times to get him to focus, and he has repeatedly remarked that the lessons "are too boring." He also found the mandatory task of "sounding out" rather tedious and skipped straight to "saying the words fast." I recommend this book for any child, especially those younger than 4 who might find its primary content a little more stimulating.
Book Review: Clear and simple reading instruction! Summary: 5 StarsIf you think your child is ready to read, this is a wonderful tool to help you get them there. The lessons are spelled out for you perfectly. My daughter is 5 and doing really very well. She is really learning how to read! We are both excited about it! This is great!!!! L.M.
Book Review: Works with Older Kids, Too! Summary: 5 StarsI have worked with the direct instruction materials for many years (even when you had to hide the books in California !) For the past three years, I have used this book and the corrective programs to teach reading to high school age special education students. We have seen growth of 1.5 years to 5 years in one school year using the program. This is with students who have 'flat lined' on their tested reading scores for years. The students notice the difference in their ability to participate in their general education courses in a short time. If you are a special educator with similar students, get trained, follow the script and see what wonderful things happen!
Book Review: Excellent, outstanding book! Summary: 5 StarsOur son was not taught to read in kindergarten and when we started homeschooling 1st grade he was expected to read! We found this book through Amazon.com and what a treasure this find was! Our son just completed the book and he is reading at a 2nd grade level - he reads everything he can get his hands on. Our 3 1/2 year old has even done the first lesson. It is an easy to use format, practice letter writing also, and reading comprehension. We had a lot of fun doing the lessons and the stories were funny and cute. 5 stars - 500 stars would be more like it. An outstanding book! Orra & Tracy Gotz
