Book Review: A great way to learn Old English

When I first learned of this book, I couldn't believe it--Teach Yourself Old English? With a book and two CDs? This was almost too good to be true!
All in all, though, it was a great introduction to Old English. It doesn't discuss things like the four dialects in detail (the main focus here is on late West Saxon), but I enjoyed it very much. It details how words in Modern English came to mean what they mean today, and it's very intriguing. It also gives an invaluable insight into the workings of Old English. I highly recommend it for anyone who would love to read Beowulf in the original--the book, with its two CDs, is a great confidence-builder.
