Book Reviews of The 80/10/10 Diet

Book Review: Call me chimpanzee Jane!
Summary: 5 Stars

After suffering a debilitating car accident where a drunk driver crushed my Miata... and I walked away, alive... I spent months in physical therapy. I ended up with two crushed spinal disks and a host of other painful injuries. I spent a year in severe pain, a year in which I could barely walk, could barely sleep.

I tried everything - and I mean everything - to help alleviate the pain. Massage. Physical Therapy. Prescription Medication. Aspirin. Herbs. Yoga. Acupuncture. Nothing worked.

I somehow came across Dr. Doug's book and my life changed. I began eating all fresh raw fruits and vegetables in the proportions Dr. Doug recommends. My family laughed to see me make enormous smoothies of 10 bananas and entire heads of celery which I would slam down with relish.

I lost 35 pounds within six weeks. My skin is so smooth and clear. My eyes are incredibly bright. And my back pain? GONE. Gone. The raw foods reduced the amounts of inflammation in my body.

Dr. Doug explains that the road to health includes a very low fat vegan diet where only ten percent - or less - of your mails consist of fat. Making those foods raw increases the health benefits a hundred fold, too.

I feel amazing. I have a new lease on life. I am so grateful I came across this book here at amazon.com, and recommend it to anyone struggling with back pain or weight issues.

Book Review: Cant agree with everything in this book.
Summary: 3 Stars

This book really didnt hit the mark for me. There is alot of good information in here but Dr Graham says some things that I feel are really fanatical and "out there". And I am already a hot food vegetarian and extremely open minded against Big Pharma and Western Medecine/Nutrition.

But he says things such as these:

Vinegar is poisonous for the human body.

Olives are not meant to be consumed as people food.

Juicing veggies such as with a GreenStar or Champion juicer is harmful because they get digested too quickly and cause a spike in blood sugar (or something like that).

Even the grains most people think are healthy such as brown rice, whole wheat bread and so forth should be excluded from your diet.

You should throw out your entire spice rack and condiments. (I paraphrased that)

The cellulose in cruciferous veggies such as brocoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts is abrasive while passing thru your intestines. (Thats news to me as I thought this was the best form of fiber a human should eat).

Eating more than half of a Haas California avocado in 1 day will put too much fat in your diet.

But that being said I did read 80% of the book. I read it with an open mind and did derive benefits from it. The best thing I learned from it is to quit buying all those garbage supplements, vitamins and enzymes from the health food store and instead to look to mother nature and get these vitamins and minerals from the whole foods that I eat.

I really wish Dr Graham would substantiate many of his statements with reference to peer-reviewed journal or something the way that John Robbins does in his books.

Look people, I agree you should try to add as many fruits and greens as possible to your diet but to exclude beans and bread I think is just too fanatical. I dont think anyone could adhere to such a strict regimen of deprivation. And being a skinny guy already as a hot food vegetarian I would probably look like that cartoon character "rattle me bones" if I observed 80/10/10-RV religiously.

Book Review: Changes everything!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am almost finished with the book but I have already tried 80/10/10 for a few weeks, having learned the basics.

I was a 100% raw eater for for about 7 months. Although raw was good for me I was still getting tired, had trouble taking off weight (actually put unwelcome weight on) , also my face wasn't showing the full benefits of eating raw.

Since trying Dr Grahams 80/10/10 I have had heaps more energy for consistent and vigorous exercise (best ever exercise endurance for me), a more optimistic mental state, I am taking great pleasure in my eating , the puffiness in my face and eyes is finally completely going and I am shedding the weight that I want to lose.

I also think I now have the 'glow' that raw eaters talk about too.

Lastly, I have less cravings to go off raw now. After months of being raw, I would have bouts of suddenly wanting and eating cooked foods or I would just binge on raw foods. The strength of that seems to be gone with this change.

I am still tweaking what to eat for me and how much.Overall though I do know this is working. Finally, my raw eating efforts are showing! I knew it made sense. I just had to find what worked for me.

I will add to this review when I am 80/10/10 even longer as to give it a fair review in the long term.

Book Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

Douglas Graham describes a simple diet to revitalise our health and wellbeing. I was not thriving as a vegan until I started to follow the 80/10/10 diet principles. By cutting out fatty snacks and vegetable oils (including so-called "healthy" olive oil), reducing my nut/seed consumption (including houmous, one of my favourites!) and dramatically increasing my fruit intake (for breakfast I have 5-6 subacid/acid fruits and for lunch 10-12 bananas), I have so much more energy and stamina than before. Thank you Doug.

Book Review: Excellent Book on Raw Food!
Summary: 5 Stars

I think this is one of the first books you should read if you are interested in going raw. Excellent book!
