Book Reviews of The AlchemistBook Review: you should read it Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't given a 5 star review yet. Maybe it's because this is one of few `inspirational' novels that have actually held my attention, but I truly believe that every person should read this book once in their life. It's cheap and it's worth so much more than the money you spend. The irony is that this book fell into my hands at exactly the time it should have. You can only understand that after you've read the book...and more importantly...after you understand what you`ve read.
If you find this book to be poorly written and you get nothing out of it, then you've read it at the wrong time in your life or you simply didn't understand the message. I think most people who read it will get what they need from it, though.
Book Review: you will read because it was recommended to you, but not by me Summary: 3 Stars
A lot of people rave about this book. I read it twice. Once several years ago, and once recently. People that have read it, check this out: the kid has stolen from him every significant bunch of wealth he gets - do you hold out much hope that he will hang on to this final, huge, highly steal-able "treasure" at the end? The narrator pontificates like there is no tomorrow - of course, that is fun to do, so I can't blame the author on that account, but these "truths" that get rattled off - give me a break.
The book is an interesting mix of charming story, pseudo-spriituality, utter money-grubing materialism, and BS, kind of like a dream. Some good marketing ideasin the section on the crystal dealer. The kid is kind of fickle - he likes this girl, then that one - who is next? Ultimately, I felt like I was left with not much. But I did like parts of it. Lots of people talk about this book - you will read it eventually. I wonder what how you will feel about it?
Book Review: your journey begins here Summary: 5 Stars
As a rule, I'm not into self help books. I'm especially not into them when they are disguised as novels, but Coelho's books are different somehow. He comes from such a sincere place, and his prose never comes across as preachy. This is spirituality in its purest form. SIMPLICITY. This book is not beyong anyon'es grasp and allows the reader--any reader a chance at spiritual enlightenment. The book can be taken on many levels. It is an engaging read, but also a roadmap. Calling this a book is an injustice. It is a guide, and from time to time we all need to be guided.
