Book Reviews of The AlchemistBook Review: A True Classic Summary: 5 Stars
How is it possible that a simple tale of a shepherd boy can affect so many people over the course of the fifteen years since this book was published? Is it merely due to the fact that Paolo Coehlo addresses a major theme like following your destiny? Or is it because he tenderly writes about love and personal growth? Perhaps it's those moments when he juxtaposes the world of intellect versus the world of intuition? If this were a multiple-choice quiz - I'd have to answer "all of the above". "The Alchemist" has something for everyone - Add me to the list of admirers!
Stories that touch on so many key life themes don't come around too often. I'm fortunate to have found another book as well that I wholeheartedly recommend: Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment. The authors, Ariel and Shya Kane, offer a new possibility of looking to live one's life in the moment. It's amazing how instantaneous transformation can take place regarding one's destiny and personal growth when the "present" is seen as a "gift". Put both of these works on your bookshelf - you won't regret it!
Book Review: A Wonderful journey into an interesting world. Summary: 4 Stars
In "The Alchemist" I thought the author's fable about the shepherd boy, Santiago, and his travels were an interesting story. I loved every second of Santiago's search for his treasure by the pyramids and his journey through the desert. The book gave a wonderful insight into a person that is seeking their own destiny and learning from that pursuit. I did have a hard time connecting with the character Fatima. Maybe it was her fate, but I was hoping she would do more that sit around and wait for his return. Overall, Paulo Coelho prose is delightful, and inspirational and direct.
Book Review: A Wordy Fortune Cookie Summary: 1 Stars
It could be an interesting read for a child. However, if you're an adult, save yourself the time and just have Chinese food for dinner tonight, you'll probably be given a fortune cookie at the end, and the message in the cookie will most likely sum up this book.
Book Review: A beautiful book Summary: 5 Stars
A beautiful book. Reading the Alchemist remind me a quote "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams" (Henry David Thoreau)
Book Review: A beautiful book Summary: 4 Stars
This book is a beautiful book. It might not be very original, but it is inspirational. It might have a simple plot, but what's wrong with that? It certainly is very easy to read (actually, like all of Coelho's books). And after reading it, it might make you some action!
Now, how many fiction books do that?
