Book Review: A Halfway Review: Disappointing

It's pretty rare that I will give up on a book after reading it halfway through. But with this one, I made an exception.
The talented writing style of the author and the promise of a thickening plot (middle-aged daughter smothers senile mother to death right off the bat) kept me going, until I realized that the story really wasn't leading anywhere. So I stopped and took a look at the reviews. Bam! Just as I suspected!
No, I did not give up on this book because I go for the conventional. Not at all. It is unconventional, which is just fine, but this quality alone is not enough to hold the story together. By the halfway point, I found that I didn't care one bit about the characters, and therefore, had no interest in finding out what happened to any of them. I give it two and a half for the writing, rounded up to three because I can't seem to click halfway on the third star.
Sorry. "The Lovely Bones" was okay, by the way.
