Book Reviews of The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials, Book 3)

Book Review: One of the best books ever
Summary: 5 Stars

Phillip Pullman is brilliant. This book has the same childlike wonder of the northern lights. It has the same amazing sense of discovery.

But in a way it is a more mature book. THe emotions of all the main charectors (Will & Lyra above all) are so much deeper. And the ending is utterly heartbreaking. Phillip Pullman weaves together threads of narrative with complex ideas and numerous sub-plots to create one of the most spell binding, thought provoking beautiful works of art ever.

This is a story I will never forget. It so amazingly completes the whole plot. THe main charectors are wonderful, with Mrs. Coulther perhaps one of the most complex of all.

Regardless of your age, buy this book. Find time for it. It will keep you company for the rest of your life. It is absolutely incredible, after reading it it was 5 minutes before I could move, I was that stunned by the end.

Book Review: This is undeniably the best book ever written
Summary: 5 Stars

I have only just, a few hours ago, finished this book, and I am still in a state of shock. Everything about this book is perfect - I cant find one line which isn't a masterpiece. The plot is brilliant, involving, apocalyptic, emotional and everything else that has ever been good. The characters are beautifully described, heroic, believeable and magnificent.

I sometimes rate books n how miserable you are in the ensuing hours afetr you've finished, and how late you stay up into the small hours to finish it. At points, I was almost in tears, and being a thirteen year old male, im not normally an emotional person, and last night/this morning I was up until two, at which point I ran out of book, but I assure you, I would have asily stayed up till five or six.

I used ot have aspirations to be a writer, but they have been shattered as I know I could never write any thing even close to half as goood as this, and whatever I wrote, I would never be happy with it, because it would just be ripped off the this literary masterpiece.

I feel I should warn fans of happy endings that the ending to this book is not, and I will never forgive Phillip Pullman for that, but that fact is eclipsed entirely by the fact that this is the greatest book that has ever been written. I feel I can safely say, without fear of contradiction or exaggeration that there isn't, has never ben, and probably never will be a beter book than this.

However, my humble words do not come close to doing justice to this magnificent book, and would recommmend anyone with, and the ability to read, to buy this book and it's predeccesors, and ead them for forself.

Book Review: great.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have seen a review above by someone who obviously is a christian and was offended by this book. I don't feel that it is directed as a personal insult to the christian faith. I feel that it is a book about rebellion, overpowering the unconquerable, challenging the unquestionable. It is also one of the best books of one of the best trilogies ever. While Northen Lights and The Subtle Knife were both brilliant books in their own right, The Amber Spyglass raises philisophical questions and challenges scientific theories. The ability to connect to peoples emotions and the tiny details that made the first two books so convincing are here as well (for example, the inclusion of Kendal mint cake in a supply bag), affirming that His Dark Materials will go down in history as one of the finest stories ever written.

Book Review: If I could, I'd give this book 10,000 stars
Summary: 5 Stars

A masterpeice is what I'd call it. a work of art, A peice of writing that should never be forgotten. I've just finished reading it this same night, and i'ts blown my mind, and heart away. I thought that only 1 book out of 3 could be good, but all three of "His Dark Materials" have been so wonderous, so adventurous that i will make sure that my Children, and their children read these books,

Well Done P.Pullman !!!!

Book Review: The best read ever
Summary: 5 Stars

Oh godddd why did it have to end like that? One of the best books i have ever had the pleasure of reading. Philip Pullman brings you so close to the characters and then to end it like that...I'll be miserable for weeks. I know it's a trilogy but he HAS TO WRITE ANOTHER ONE!!!! I was so absorbed in the book. All other books i read will now be rated against it. I disagree with those who call this a childrens book, it is at a much higher level, adults WILL love this book too, i can't get my mum to give it back to me! Claire Carter (15)
