The book is over 220 pages of absolutely essential information for any cello student. It covers all of basics with easy to follow concise instructions backed up by diagrams and photos and of course etudes and well chosen excerpts where appropriate.
Chapters include - parts of and care of the instrument, rudiments of music (great refresher and quick reference), practicing tips, tuning, playing position, pizzicato, left hand positions, bowing techniques, etc.
Many more chapters follow (36 in all) covering more advanced techniques - all left hand positions and upper/lower extensions, thumb positions, vibrato, advanced bowing (staccato, spiccato etc.), tremolo, chords, trills and ornaments, harmonics, arpeggios and scales.
There is also a very comprehensive repertoire list at the end collated into solos, duets, chamber, orchestral etc.
For me this book has the lot and I would not hesitate in recommending this as an instruction manual or as reference book. If you only purchase one Cello manual this has to be it.
