Book Review: The ultimate guide to the very essential cocktails

The Art of the Cocktail is a fantastic guide covering only those cocktails that really matter in life: this is not a book about cheap mix-in-as-much-as-you-can cocktails, but about the great Classic. There is an almost mozartian struggle to simplicity in the way the ingredients are stripped to the bare essential and in the same time those few ingredients are the only necessary ones. I never managed to find a better recipe for a Singapore Sling than Philip Collins', not even at the Raffles Hotel. Next to the content I must praise the form: the way the recipes are shown next to beautiful pictures, the way the same recipes are not crammed all together, but displayed each one on a single page, the anecdotes ... If you are looking for something serious you cannot search further.
