Book Reviews of The Atlas of Middle-Earth (Revised Edition)

Book Review: superb
Summary: 5 Stars

i had the original edition atlas (published early 1980's) with me when i re-read the hobbit and LOTR trilogy last winter. The atlas provides a visual aid that made it easier for me to participate imaginatively in the progress of the stories. it is also very helpful when reading the silmarillion and other tolkien works.

i agree with the criticism about general maps at times being too separated from detailed maps. i spent a lot of time flipping pages back and forth and kept two or three book marks in place at one time.

Book Review: Incredible Detail
Summary: 4 Stars

When I recieved this atlas as a gift last year I was ecstatic. No more rellying on torn, bent, and small front page maps any more.

This is an incredibly comprehensive work. Not only is there a wonderfully clear and easy to read map on nearly every page, but also commentary on how that map relates to the text.

I definetely recommend this to any true Tolkien fan. Lots of detailed building layout maps are also included.

Book Review: An impressive atlas
Summary: 4 Stars

If you love LoTR, you'll love this. It's a very detailed atlas with not only maps from LoTR, but the Hobbit and the Silmarillion. I recommend this one.

Book Review: Indebted to the Author
Summary: 5 Stars

I hardly think I could say something original in my particular review of this book. What I can say is that, by any measure, the author did Tolkien fans the greatest of favors and paid Tolkien a serious compliment by creating a wonderfully written and well-researched atlas of a detailed fantasy. I became absorbed in Middle Earth simply by reading Tolkien's words. The Atlas has succeeded in fueling my fascination with all of Tolkien's M.E. writings, and adding texture to an already rich experience for me. I gladly push this book on anyone who has read Tolkien and is hungry for more. This book is the next best thing to being there.

Book Review: If you love Tolkien, ya gotta have this book!
Summary: 4 Stars

A few errors but all in all a wonderful companion to Tolkien's works. These maps take you 'there'. There's a comparison chart tracing Bilbo's steps to the Lonely Mountain by way of Rivendale and then traces the Fellowship's footsteps to Rivendale and then on to Mordor. Charts showing buildings and caverns make these places come alive. I keep this book and The Guide to Middle Earth next to whatever Tolkien book I am reading or re reading! Ya just gotta have this book!
