The Backchannel is great read and full of practical tips and ideas.

Six months ago I was a phones off, pay attention to the front of the room type of guy regardless of whether I was on stage or in the audience. After using twitter in a number of speeches and when facilitating a customer summit I discovered what a great way to expand the conversation this medium is and was pondering how to do it better when "The Backchannel" jumped of a Florida bookstore shelf and came on the road with me.

To be clear to readers my perspective is that of a professional speaker and facilitator and I found "The Backchannel" a great resource from two very different angels.

First the book provides great tips on how to use twitter and to better connect with audiences. Other reviewers outline these features and the book is great value for this and this alone.

It is in the broader context of educating event organisers and company executives as to what is possible and why we would want to work a twitter backchannel that I think this book is extra valuable. Often event organisers and executive decision makers are not social media savy and do not see the benifit. "The Backchannel" helps me have the conversation about why and how a speech, conference or facilitation can go to the next level by embracing rather than ignoring social media. As someone who is not a social media expert this is really helpful.
