Book Reviews of The Belgariad, Vol. 1 (Books 1-3): Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, Magician's GambitBook Review: An unbelievable MUST read for all fantasy fans!!!! Summary: 5 StarsThe first three books of a magic, exciting adventure which enables you to follow the young boy Garion through lands of new family and friends, enermies, sorcery and fulfilment of the prophecy. Laughter, sorrow, fun and truimph fill every page of Eddings' work. It entraps you in a world from which you will never want to leave! And by having the first three books in one means you won't have for a long time!! Luckily, for Eddings fans there are two further books to conclude The Belgariad and another five books in The Mallorean which continue the adventure! not forgetting the additional biograghies of Belgarath and Polgara. I consider Eddings to be the best means of escape from the real world and a must-read again and again and again.....
Book Review: A Good Start! Summary: 4 Starsheya all, this book IS the Book to start reading and be hooked on the Fantasy reading for years to come. It was the first book I started on and have not stopped, trust me its great. Im sure most readers have gone through the "just one more Chapter" problem, for manya times have gotten up in the morning with hardly any sleep because of fantasy books and it was this book that started it all, DAMN YOUUUU!!
Book Review: My first adult fantasy Summary: 5 StarsAn amazing read, the first of my obsession. A bit slow to start with but don't give up, once you get into it it's a gripping read. The characters and funny and very detailed, and the plot is thick with intrigue and humour. It's one of those booke you just can't put down, and the story really does flow from page to page. Don't plan to read this book for half and hour, because before you know it it'll be 3 hours later and you'll still be gripped.NOTE: Must read the epic sequel- The Malloreon by David Eddings!
Book Review: The First Part Of The Belgariad Summary: 5 StarsThese are the frist three books in David Edding's fantastic series-The Belgariad. The reader is taken into the world of Garion, a peasant living with his aunt on a farm. But everything changes with the arrival of an old friend... There's enough of the story-I found the belgaraid and the sequel series the mallorean excellent and devoured then within a month. However if you have read another series by Eddings such as the Elenium and Tamuli or The Redemption of Althalus, you will find he does tend to reuse a certain formula. Having read all of his books I have to say that this series (and the 2 prequels) were my faves, probably because I read them first and so that whole formula thing was new. Anyway, READ IT!!!!
Book Review: A good starter, but not great. Summary: 3 StarsAs so many others the Eddings books were some of the first I read after discovering Tolkien and fantasy in general. They are easy to read, the storyline is fast evolving and most of the characters are - well - nice. But it isn't fantasy at it highest! The character development is nearly none-existing. I know they all improve in one ability, but it is so ... transparent. Everytime the group meet a new problem, one groupmember will have a special ability that will match that particular problem ... again it is transparent. Sometimes it is even boring. That being said the stories still works and Belgarath is still one of my favourite characters in fantasy, but be warned - there is much better fantasy out there: Raymond Feist, George R.R. Martin, Robert Jordan, etc.
